Dear Resident,
Another year is coming to an end. It’s been a particularly tough year with the cost of living crisis, energy bills etc, but there’s lots to look forward to in Newburgh as we approach Christmas:
- Carol Services on 17 December at the Red Lion and the Church
- Lots of goodies in the Post Office, Wilton Farm and Apple Cast shop
- Winter Wonderland and Family nights at Apple Cast
- Events at Eden Tearooms
- Christmas trees at Cobbs Brow Nurseries
If you fancy a brisk walk, go to the much-improved Appleton Fields and Wood, then have a special coffee at the Post Office or Eden Tearooms or maybe an ice cream at Wilton Farm.
A special thank you to Giltrees for again donating the Christmas tree for the green.
On behalf of all the Parish Council may I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
Mike Roughneen

Newburgh School
Our 3 aims at Newburgh are:
- To ensure our children live by our 6 Gospel Values
- To ensure our curriculum is rich and engaging
- To ensure our children are prepared for modern day Britain.
At Newburgh, we firmly believe that our community is instrumental in supporting us to achieve these aims. This term alone highlights the wealth of opportunities our community links will provide our children:
WILTON FARM – our EYFS children regularly visit the farm shop to collect produce to cook with but this Christmas we will be bringing our Forest School Nativity to the farm and the donkey and goats will even have parts to play!
POST OFFICE – one of the ’50 Things To Do’ at Newburgh activities is to post a letter. This Christmas, our Reception and KS1 children will have the opportunity to purchase a stamp and post their letter to Father Christmas
DOUGLAS VALLEY LIONS – in recognition of the work our Eco Council have done to reduce car journeys to and from school, we have had high visibility vests kindly donated by the Lions for our children to wear whilst scootering, walking or cycling to and from school this autumn.
CHRIST CHURCH – our Year 5 and 6 children have already led on a Remembrance Service but later in the term our Year 3 and 4 children will be leading on a Christingle
LOCAL FIELDWORK – from soil analysis at the farm through to the observations of the local waterways, our children have experienced purposeful learning experiences to embed their classroom learning across the curriculum. Our thanks
go to our wonderful community partnerships which are all providing our children with opportunities to flourish, develop their public speaking opportunities and uphold our school values. We look forward to sharing our Christmas Art around the Village later in the term.

Apple Cast
Hello to all of our friends and neighbours from all of the team at Apple Cast, we hope you are all staying safe and well.
In the half term break we enjoyed pumpkin picking and welcomed visitors from the local area and further afield. It’s proving to be a very wet and windy autumn however our furry and feathered family are enjoying life and continue to love visiting friends old and new for a cuddle and obviously some food!! It’s warm and dry in our lovely coffee shop where people meet for a catch up with some lovely food and coffee.
We are now planning the Christmas Winter Wonderland events again for this year with the return of the Tepees and Santa’s Grotto to make the experience magical. Once again thank you for your continued support to Apple Cast. Sending our very best wishes for Christmas and the New Year.

Post Office
We are now fully stocked with lots of gorgeous Christmas gifts, cards and decorations and the coffee shop is serving a selection of hot drinks and festive sandwiches, soups, snacks and cakes.
